London Olympics 2012
As you may know the 2012 Olympics and paralympics are to be held in the UK starting from next week for about 4 weeks inclusive
Moderator note
Please do note ;This thread is not meant as an 'advert 'for the Olympics but as a 'travel warning' for anyone coming to especially London UK over that period
Those of you who work in London will, I hope, be savvey to the travel chaos etc expected and the road closures etc now in place
Driving in London is not to be recommended ; the UK airports are expected to be exceptionally busy and you may well find your 'normal' journeys affected
Please check the internet for up- to- date travel information including the effects on the London underground and London bus services, parking arrangements
Bus routes will change; roads will be closed, some roundabouts will be closed and there is expected to be an impact on travel possibilities for workers in the City and local Hospitals plus outlying Towns that are also hosting some of the Olympic events .
If you have a 'reasonable ' query about the Olympics and how it might affect you please post to this thread; but a warning any unnecessary posts will be removed without warning

Re: London Olympics 2012
An 'Update'......
The London Olympic Opening Ceremony is at 9PM BST at Stratford
Thousands, if not millions, of people are expected to converge on Stratford (East London (UK))for this Ceremony starting from the time of this entry on this thread; they will then attempt to leave Stratford for all Compass Locations at the end of this Ceremony and all travel routes are expected to be extremely busy until probably early on Saturday Morning
The main Games then start from Saturday and this information you may find helpful to know what and where to avoid in your general travels!!!!
The general concensus of opinion is .....if you do not need to be in London over the Olympic Period... then do not go there as London is expected to be extremely busy with queues expected on most London Underground platforms !!!
Since the Kings cross Fire
ALL of our London Underground stations and trains were declared as non- smoking whether the train or platform is above ground or not .....as are our Main Line trains and stations ; this includes the DLR too!!!)
Many car parks are now closed for general use , Road closures are in place , bus routes altered, train destinations changed' airports will be extremely busy and taxis.....well !!

Re: London Olympics 2012
The London Olympics are now under way!!
If you do not need to be there then places to avoid are
London (various events around and in London so do not go to London unless you need to be there !!)
Eton Dorney
Hadleigh Farm, Essex
http://www.london2012.com/venue/hadleigh-farm/travel/
Waltham Abbey, Essex (Lea Valley White Water Center)
On the London Road cycling events many roads will be closed for the duration of the Cycling Events
If you do intend to travel anywhere near or in London you are strongly advised to check your available route, and be aware that your journey time may be increased by several hours at least!!

UPDATE....
The London Olympics 2012 are now complete
The London Paralympics 2012 commence on 29th August 2012
Details for travel etc may be found
Here
Once these Games start we will get a better idea of impact on Travel in and around London !!
Again; this thread is for travel advise while the Games are on in London, UK as all of those who work in the City or have to travel anywhere in London UK etc will have their travel arrangements disrupted for the duration

Poke wrote:* correction: August not Auigust.
At least that proves the info is being read and hopefully such info will help those who come to London UK for the Paralympics;these start the day aftger the Bank Holiday in the UK so those travelling in to the UK may wish to be aware of possible 'Hot -Spots' at Airports from the Bank Holday' get- away 'week end!!
It is suggested that people start to 'plan' their work journeys now to accomodate the 'special needs 'of the paralympics;you know the Games will be happening so please start to plan your journey now if you work in or around London UK

The Paralympic Closing Ceremony is on Sunday and information on how to get tickets if you may wish to can be found here

Do also please note the Celebrations in London on the following Monday
Plus the fact that the road restrictions will, apparently, not be lifted until maybe Wednesday at the earliest
So...you are please advised to again check your journey route etc if you intend to travel anywhere in or around London in the next few days as, if you do not, you may well end up not getting to your destination

Travel restrictions are not expected to be lifted until Wednesday at the earliest so please do not get caught out by the Olympic Road routes
