Website facebook button

I have tried to get a facebook badge for my business web page and when I post the code and upload it for a preview I see something that looks like a facebook ad near my home page header. If I click on it then it does take me to my facebook page but if I click on the icon on any page I have it showing then it doesn't. My linkedin and twitter buttons work perfectly and were seemless to set up but the process for setting up a facebook button for either my fan page or regular profile page is so difficult that I do not have a button on my site to date.

Well, I seem to be batting zero in knowing where to post my questions.
