unable to recover facebook account

I recently deactivated my facebook account and I changed the password to my hotmail account associated with my facebook account. I therefore, selected the option to reactivate my facebook account with the option of sending codes to friends but whenever I try to do this option it says 'an email error has occured. Try again later'. However, whenever I try to do this it always says an 'error has occurred'.
I have also tried the option for facebook to send me a password reset code to another email account, however, no such email ever materialises.
If anyone knows how to resolve this, it would be greatly appreciated if you could tell me.

You have of course thoroughly checked in the junk spam section as Facebook email addresses often gt thrown there....
