Sending link to event created in a Group Page

I have a friend who created an event from a Group page and is sending out the link to promote it. It's listed checked as a Public Event (Anyone can view and RSVP (public event)). But, when people go to access the link, they can't get to it unless they are logged into Facebook. Is that the way it should work?

Also, when people do a search within FB for the event, they can't see it. Are Group events hidden from people not in the Group? Seems counter-productive.

Any help appreciated.

I believe that's how the events work; people need to be logged in in order to see the event.

It should show up in the search engine. Be sure you are searching it exactly as the title appears. The facebook search engine may also take a while to update, so give it some time after creating the event before trying to search for it.
