Facebook chat

Hello, I've been a member of facebook for over a year and during this time I've had problems with chat idling. I never seem to be able to go idle when I'm not browsing facebook or using my computer (while facebook runs). It's annoying because sometimes when my friends write to me and I don't answer even though I'm afk but idle doesn't show, they get mad and think I'm ignoring which I'm not and I'm not sure what causes this but I would like to know.. Anyone who can help?
