Facebook changes / to %2F in link
Hi
When I post links to a blog on Facebook, some of the / get changed to %2F so that the link gets redirected to the blog index page rather than the blog entry itself. Any ideas why this would be?
e.g. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
when posted on FB becomes:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Thanks

Is this happening with the "Share" button or everytime you attach a link to a post?

Seems to be both, whatever method I use to insert the link, the problem occurs. Thanks.

Okay, I just tested it and got the same outcome. But actually, when I visit both URL's, i get redirected to the same website. Facebook could be censoring '/' for some reason, though.
Could you leave the link to any article on your blog, please?

The link does change when you attach it, but if I click it, I'm taken to the correct page. Could you please test it yourself?

Many apologies, the two articles had similar names and the link was wrong. Here's an earlier story, creating it as a link in FB should show what happens:

I'm using Safari 5/Firefox 3 on a Mac. Thanks.

No worries, but I got the exact same result with that link. It gets transformed to...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
But when I click on it, I'm redirected to the proper link and I can read the article.

Wikipedia article is right... the URL gets encoded because it's being posted as HTML instead.
Percent-encoding, also known as URL encoding, is a mechanism for encoding information in a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) under certain circumstances.
But as long as you're taken to the same page (and not the index), I don't see any problems. Where does the encoded URL take you?

Another Chrome fan? High 5!
Well, I beg to differ. I'm also using Chrome and Windows 7 (also tried it on Windows XP) and both links take me to the article.
Another funny fact: Facebook also uses its own URL encryption method. This is the transformed URL when you click it while on Facebook.

All very strange. Have tried the links you've posted but it still continues to just takes me to the blog index page. Have now tried on Chrome and IE8 on Windows 7 - same result.

That is indeed strange... I have also tried on IE8 and IE7 and I'm still being taken to the article.
Try emptying your cookies and cache... the redirection could be stored on a cookie. Problem is you ensure to have tried different browsers...
Could you ask your fans where that link takes them, please?
