how do you feel about posting on another's FB page to bring people to your Page?

I have wondered for a while about the appropriateness of this but have seen it be fairly common.

What do you think of posting on another's page (a business page) just to get people onto your page? If it is a direct competitor they probably wouldn't accept you on their page anyway, but many businesses don't stop people joining their page at all. I dont.

Is there for instance a way that I could find the top dog pages on FB and post a link to my dog treat page or should I just post comments on their page and its up to people to decide if they want to check my business out further because my comments are interesting ???

You could offer a giveaway once you get to a certain amount of 'fans' encourage fans to share your page, spread the word etc?
