Adding a badge to a fan page Empty Adding a badge to a fan page

Post by Bigpapi Mon Feb 08, 2010 5:09 pm

Hello,
I am new to this forum, and I am hoping someone can assist me. I have created a fan/business page and I would like to add a badge to it so people can add that to their profile page. I am pretty sure I created the badge correctly, but how do I display it, or give someone the option to add it to their page?

I'll bet it something simple that I am overlooking, but any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hello and welcome to the FBF!

The badge works with HTML or even with BB code. Those are coing languages.

If you have already created the badge you need to copy the code for "Other". Then you can ask someone who admins a Fanpage to read [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and paste that code into the FBML.

You can also have a picture which updates automatically with the number of fans without using HTML.

Example, this is the code of my Fanpage's badge.

Code:
<!-- Facebook Badge START --><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/FacebookForum-v25/235770009237" title="FacebookForum v2.5" target="_TOP" style="font-family: "lucida grande",tahoma,verdana,arial,sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-variant: normal; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; color: #3B5998; text-decoration: none;">FacebookForum v2.5</a><br/><a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/FacebookForum-v25/235770009237" title="FacebookForum v2.5" target="_TOP"><img src="http://badge.facebook.com/badge/235770009237.4176.361973911.png" width="120" height="178" style="border: 0px;" /></a><br/><a href="http://www.facebook.com/business/dashboard/" title="Make your own badge!" target="_TOP" style="font-family: "lucida grande",tahoma,verdana,arial,sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-variant: normal; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; color: #3B5998; text-decoration: none;">Promote Your Page Too</a><!-- Facebook Badge END -->

It's way too long to add in some places. What you just need to copy is the link of the picture (where it says "img src="") and paste that link into the [img] tags, like this

Code:
[img]LINK[/img]

That's BBCode, which this forum uses. Then the pic will look like this, and will update automatically.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hope that helps.

That is actually very helpful, thank you.

However, I was looking at the tutorial, and I do not seem to have a FBML option when I edit my page.

Is that normal?

Ok, I got that to work, but it's not what I was expecting.

When I go into edit my page, it gives me an option to create a badge, or a fan box (not sure of the term I want here). So I ceated the style that I want. I'd like people to be able to link that box to their profile pages.

But after I created the badge I like, the script that it pulled (in the "other" tab) only created a link with my page name on it. Not the logo, or status update that I was aiming for.

Does that make sense? I guess now I need to try to get the script for the badge that I want added.

lol... ok once again I type before I finish following all the directions.

I got the badge to look how I want it. I need to go test it and see if other people can add that to their personal profile page.

Try not multiple posting several times without a 24hs delay between messages. Please use the Edit button instead

You mean you want people to have that badge as a Box at the left?

Unfortunately FMBL is only available for Fanpages and not for Profiles.

You can ask them to leave a link will a little thumbnail to make it a bit 'more attractive' but also remeber to always be leaving updates and new posts that will show up onto their homepages, and they'll come back.

As for your website (as I see you own one) you can paste the HTML for thr Box there Very Happy

Thanks so much for your help on this. I certainly appreciate it. And you are right about the updates on the home page.

I was thinking of an app like Mafia Wars as an example. I have their badge on my page and it links me right to their app. That is ideally what I would like.

I'll keep researching and see if I can find how to do that.

Yep, but you need to develop an Application for that, which, believe me, it's more than difficult even if you have some coding knowledge.

Big companies which develop succesful apps, like Zynga or Playfish could develop that box feature. Do you have JavaScript, CSS, HTML and other coding knowledge?

No problem. Remember we don't provide App support (on the coding part) so this wouldn't be the right place to ask.
