My account hacked and email/password changed Empty My account hacked and email/password changed

Post by kellyblan Sat Jun 04, 2011 10:45 am

I'm experiencing problems just like the others I've seen posted here.

I've been locked out of my account. Somehow my account was hacked and the email address and password was changed.

Just like some others, I DID NOT recieve ANY email at all about the change to the email address or password but somehow they were both changed. If I did, someone got into my email and deleted them before I could read them. It is a Yahoo! email account and I still have access to my email. When I use the "reset password" option, it lists m********1@g*******.c*.cc as the email address. I have NO idea where that came from. I'm sure the "*" are hiding the actual email address but somehow it was changed without my knowledge or notification. Someone has found a way to do this without the emails being sent (I've seen others report the same issue).

At this time, I cannot login to my facebook account and there is no way I can read any emails from facebook since the email address has been changed on the account. If I use my password, I see the screen that says I'm using an old password.

I've tried the "Three Friends" method but it fails with a "too many attempts to change password" error. I have no idea on how I'm going to get my account back.

My computer has the latest Norton Internet Secruity 2011 with the lastest patches. This all started happening on Thursday June 2nd. Last scan was done on that day after the attack. Only 1 tracking cookie was found so no viruses or other issues with my computer. I've been using Firefox version 4.0.1. I've checked for updates and I have the latest version of Firefox.

I've filled out forms to facebook to notify them of the issue but the forms I filled say "They will not respond to the issue. It will be used to enhance their program for the future." Well that just sucks. How are you suppose to get in touch with someone to solve the issue? Hence, that is why I'm posting here.

Can anyone offer assistance?

I come to dread it if someone says they have Norton on their computer as it is not regarded as a reliable Antivirus program...

However I assume this is your computer so you chose it so....

Of interest, do you only use that machine to access Facebook?

Does anyone else have access to the machine?

Do you do any P2P stuff on there?

May I ask you to please run each of these just to check up on the malware side of things

Taken from Malwarebytes web site
‘Support for Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)’.

Disclaimer; Run at your own risk

Please download [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and save it to your desktop.
MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes , they may interfere or alert you.

  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet to be able to install and update the program

(NB once the program has updated please disconnect from the Internet and run the scan while off- line )

  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:

    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.

  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
On the Scanner tab:

  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:

  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

My account hacked and email/password changed Empty Re: My account hacked and email/password changed

Post by kellyblan Sun Jun 05, 2011 2:12 pm

I'm suprised you say Norton Internet Secutity is bad. My husband has had others and they were terrible (Zonealarm, AVG, McAfee etc). He has even used Norton to fix relatives computers after they had a virus on them (McAfee). Which do you think is better than Norton?

I do not do P2P stuff on the computer. I use it for facebook and the internet and to read my email. My husband has access to the system as well but he has his own computer. My kids have their own as well so they don't use it. I know it wasn't them that did anything.

I can try the other tools but I want to give you and update. While I was logged into Facebook on Thursday, I had a page popup that asked if I logged into "Facebook from new somewhere?" (notice the strange wording?).

Here is the page:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Notice the 1 "t" in geting. Another suspect.

I've printed the page to a PDF file so you could see what was on it but I don't know if I can add an attachment to this post so my husband uploaded it here:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Not knowing any better I filled it out. I bet this is where someone was able to take over my facebook account, and change my email address and password. It seems like a strange page.

The wierd thing is, if you go to the link on another computer, you get the same message asking if you logged into "from new somewhere". That is way I believe it is a hacked page.

Since the web address is facebook.com, someone has hacked facebook right?

I'll check into the scans but I'm pretty sure my computer is virus free.

I've tried [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] but that just ends up at the "three facebooks friends" and I get an error that the password reset has been tried too often.

Any other suggestions? I'll get back to you on the two anti-malware results.

I am concerned about this which I believe I have seen on another thread on here too
I can try the other tools but I want to give you and update. While I was logged into Facebook on Thursday, I had a page popup that asked if I logged into "Facebook from new somewhere?" (notice the strange wording?).

and

PUP.PlaySushi

Both of which i think are of concern

There is not one better than another but I have yet to see anyone recommend someone to use Norton ( especially on the malware forums that I 'watch'

It is of course entirely up to you, the computer owner, as to how you Protect it while on the internet

I am of a mind to ask you if you would mind getting a check up on a specialist Computer forum where in-depth scans can be run as I am not convinced the computer is 'infection- free'....

the way you put this it sounds like a page re-direct??

Yes it "sounds" like a re-direct page but the address is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] which is the facebook.com domain so it sounds like a page on facebook has been hacked.

Anyway, I'm confident about the security on my computer. I do plan on using more of the malware tools but I don't think any of that was the source. I think the bogus web page was the source.

I've already created a new facebook account and I'm switching everything to that along with changing my password everywhere I've used it.

I don't think I can get it back and at this point I'm not sure I care. I'll just use the new one I created.

Thanks for your time. If someone else figures out how to get it working (getting access to a hacked facebook account) I'd like to know.

Thanks Again!

Ok; with respect, if you are not that bothered about how secure the computer may be nor that you may be getting page redirects that can signify an infected computer

If someone else figures out how to get it working (getting access to a hacked facebook account) I'd like to know.

This I suggest means that your Facebook account has been accessed by someone other than you and that that computer may be the culprit for allowing it to happen ;that you may be landing on a page that looks like Facebook but that is not in fact Facebook ....(phishing)

However, if you no longer wish for help with this

My account hacked and email/password changed Empty Profile still Locked : Stupid Facebook Support

Post by kellyblan Mon Jun 06, 2011 8:44 am

I see you moved my old topic to solved (http://www.thefacebookforum.net/t13515-my-account-hacked-and-email-password-changed)

You said:
Ok; with respect, if you are not that bothered about how secure the computer may be nor that you may be getting page redirects that can signify an infected computer

Of COURSE I would be bothered. I just don't think there is ANYTHING wrong with my computer. If you try the link I mentioned, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , I bet you see the strange page as well. It is NOT a problem with my computer. I see the same thing from other computers as well so it is not a "phishing" attack. It is a hacked page ON facebook.com.

I would love to get it back but it is obvious I'm not getting anywhere with facebook. Here is an email response from them:

Show Details FROM:The Facebook Team TO:<email remvoed> Message flagged Saturday, June 4, 2011 9:18 AMMessage bodyHi,

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues logging in to our site. Unfortunately, because you were unable to identify the account in question, we will not be able to support your inquiry. Your report will be used to help us identify any bugs in our system, but we will not be able to reply to your email directly.

Please review the following information to help you find your account and reset your password. Be sure to try every option if you haven't already done so.

1. Ask one of your Facebook friends to view your profile and send you the email address listed on your account. To do this, ask your friend to click on the "Info" tab on your Profile page and scroll down to "Contact Information."

2. In option 1, try entering every email address that you have ever owned (one email address at a time). You may have added an email address to your account and forgotten it.

3. In option 1, try entering your current mobile number and all of your past mobile numbers (one number at a time).

4. In option 2, try entering your username. A username is your personalized Facebook URL (web address) and appears in the location bar of your browser after "https://www.facebook.com/" when you view your profile. If you don't know your username, you can have a Facebook friend view your profile and tell you what your username is.

5. In option 3, try a variety of names. For the "Your name" section, try entering variations for your name. You may have signed up for a nickname and forgotten about it. You should also try a variety of friends if the first friend you enter doesn't locate an account.

If your issue is not related to the “Identify your account” flow, please visit our Help Center to find more information about common concerns and the proper forms for reporting your issue.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

If you are trying to report a violation of Facebook's Statement of Rights and Responsibilities (e.g. impersonation) please use the "Report" link located next to the violating content.

Once again, please note that we will not be able to respond to this email. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,

The Facebook Team

Pretty lame. They just don't offer support at all. That is why I decided to create a new account.

I really do value your opinion and your trying to help in this matter. Unfortunatly, there is nothing I nor you can do to get my access back since we do not work at facebook and they do not seem to want to help their users as well. I'm fairly certain my computer is secure so I'm not pursing that avenue any further.

Moral of the story, be very careful and if your facebook account gets hacked, good luck! You may have to start anew.

OK; would you be willing and prepared ( if I sent you the relevent information) to get that machine thoroughly checked out to determine if it is or is not infected?

There are tools that can be run for Experts to check for you

I think we need to maybe eliminate a page redirect ( or for that matter any other ) infection on that machine

If we can do that then we may then be able to report to Facebook that they have a problem and a page that maybe needs to be taken down

Before we accuse Facebook of that we really do need to eliminate as the cause of your problems any issue with that machine

The only was I see to do this is to ask Experts on a Specialist form to check it out for you ...

I'm willing to run some checks myself. I'm not willing to have someone login to my computer to check it themselves.

I've tried to report the page to facebook so they can check it out. They will know if it is a legimate page or not. I'm not accusing facebook of doing anything, I'm accusing someone that has somehow published a bogus page on facebook. If it is not a bogus page, then someone retrieved my account information in another manner and in that case, yes I would not mind running additional checks on my system.

I've done a full virus scan using Norton and ran the malware programs you recommended.

I'm not willing to pay anyone anything to look at it as I'm satisfied that the computer is not infected. If I noticed something else and was concerned, I would just rebuild the system.

Let me know what you have in mind and we shall see.

So they did confirm it looks like a page that caused the problem. I've reported the page to facebook on the page itself but I'm not sure what else to do about it. As you know, facebook support is pretty weak and they don't really seem to cater to their users which is a real shame.

Computer checked and appears to be clear of infections , but it seems that the Facebook user has clicked on a link and landed on a page that is not of Facebook ; so the Facebook details, I suggest ,have been 'hijacked' by someone ..

Lets see how further we may be able to get with this so....

Okay so the page is on facebook (https://apps.facebook.com/geting-started/) but it contains a hidden element that points to [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] When trying to go directly to that site, my Norton Internet Security blocks the page saying it is a "Phishing" site and an Identity Theft threat. Unfortunatly, I don't get that error on the facebook page and when I saw that last week, I gave it all my login information and my account was hacked.

I went to the page (https://apps.facebook.com/geting-started/) and reported the page as a bad page to facebook. It would be a good idea for others to do the same so it can hopefully be removed.

Now as to my account that was hacked, although I have already created a new account, I would like to get access back to the old hacked account so I can close it out properly (unfriend everyone and close the account) and so noone can use it maliciously.

I tried the "Three Friends" method again today but even after a week, I still get the same message that too many password attempts have been made and to try again later. I have NO idea how I'm ever going to get my access back.

First yes I did change my password on Yahoo! for my email. I've actually changed it everywhere just to be safe.

I've tried [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] It just gets me to the "Three Friends" method that doesn't work. I get the "You seem to be requesting password resets way too often. Come back later."

I've also tried [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Both end up in the same place for the "Three Friends" method. This is because the email address has been changed and there is no way to get it to work except for the three friends method but that isn't working.

I went to page [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] as well but I went that route before and I don't get a helpful response from facebook. They just thank me for reporting the issue but they can't reply to the problem.

Is there really anything you can really do to get the account back? I'm not so sure I will ever get my access back.

This option leads me to a page where you can give a phone number for them to contact you ? That was my 'plan'!! to help you get back into the 'now hijacked' account and try to get it back for you ..

As above; I am trying to think of 'work-arounds ' to get you in touch with Facebook to get back into the old account..reclaim it and close it

That said, can that old page with your Profile on it be found by any search method?

Yes the page can be found. I did find it and used that as part of the password recovery methods.

I've sent the email and supplied my phone number but this is the email I recieved:

Anyway, I guess all I can do is wait to see if they call unless you have other suggestions.

Yes the page can be found. I did find it

So; do I read this right? You can find the page that is ( or was!!) yours before it got hijacked ??

Can you take a note of its Profile number?

you need to find a number something like ( it will have 10 (ten) numbers)
php?id=1234567890

You will need that number as I hope it corresponds to what is ( or was) your Profile ....
